A Five Star Resort in a 2,000 Year Old Cave

Imagine if you could stay in a 2,000 year old spruced up cave and stay in a five star resort.
At Sassi di Materia in Italy, you can do just that. Daniele Kihlgren has built a first class resort in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sassi di Materia, which is located in the Basilicata region of Italy.
His original purpose was to preserve the ecology and the ruins nestled in the Abruzzo mountains. The resort has only 18 rooms and each room costs about 240 Euros per night.
Guests have private terraces that open out to the spectacular ruins below. All rooms are carved along the lanes climbing up to the town of Matera.
