Even before finishing the restoration of the castle, a museum was established there by Mr. Jacobsen in 1878. This is the National Museum of History. The museum includes the largest collection of Danish historical paintings and portraits of Danish famous kings and queens are represented and all the nobility and other persons of importance, from 1500 to today. La Chapelle, Rose, the Chamber of Audience and the Great Hall have been restored and are part of the museum.
